The Heart of Michael Jackson

My heart was slightly grieved in the wake of the death of pop star Michael Jackson, when I heard a so called devoted Christian lady say “It’s a good thing that he died, he was an evil man.”  The question in my heart was “Whatever happened to redemption?”  After all, God did send Jesus to die on the cross for the redemption of the whole world.

As citizens and heirs of the kingdom of God, should we be partaking of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, only to observe what is seen on the surface?  Or should we be partaking of the Tree of Life, which sees and observes things through the Fathers eyes?  Going beyond the outside image of humanity and penetrating mans true source of life is a hard thing for our flesh to do.  Yet Jesus said “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God...”  The Apostle Paul admonished us not to look to the things that are seen but to the things that are not seen (II Corinthians 4:18).

Yes, Jacko was a little wacko.  However, Jackson’s bizarre behavior was not that of an evil man, but an eccentric naive man who never had the opportunity to live outside of the prison of an idol worshiping humanity who placed him on a pedestal not meant for man.  *It was reported that in the last two months of his life, he met with contemporary gospel song writing pioneer Andrae Crouch twice, asking for prayer concerning the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and how he could make his music more ‘spiritual’.  He wanted to know what makes your hands go up, and makes you ‘come out of yourself,’ and what gives a ‘spirituality’ to the music?  Some may say, and did say “But he didn’t pray the sinners prayer.”  Only God knows the inner corridors of one’s heart.  How can any man truly know the inner workings of such an individual from what is seen on an exterior shell?

As I sat down to write my thoughts, my mind went to Mark Chapter five, the familiar story of Jesus casting unclean spirits into the swine.  The story starts after Jesus had crossed over the sea of Galilee into the country of the Gadarenes.  There he was met with an individual bound and tormented by unclean spirits that no man could control.  He would live in the cemetery constantly cutting and mutilating himself. Many times people of the community would bind him with fetters and chains, and the chains had been burst-through and torn to pieces by him, and the fetters.  No one could tame him, until Jesus came on the scene.  When he saw Jesus, there was something inside of him that caused the man to want to worship the anointed one that stood before him.  Yet there was a warfare going on inside of him.  Part of him saw, loved and worshiped the Light of Life, the other was tormented by principalities and powers that not even he could control.  This was not a warfare of outside images, or flesh and blood, but this was a warfare of the spirit and needed to be fought in the spirit.  Jesus dealt with the spirits that controlled this man and he was found from that day on to be in his right mind.

Something else the Apostle Paul told us is this "We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12).  What brought darkness to this world?  The partaking of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  Paul was not only talking of the world around us, but the world within us.  How can we change the world around us, if we can’t see the world within us.

Going back to the book of Mark, this time in chapter two, we find another interesting story.  Jesus had just come into Capernaum and there was an immediate gathering in a local home.  The gathering was so large that there was no room to receive those that were truly in need.  The way was blocked with spectators & on lookers, puffed up with the leaven of judging only from the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  Meanwhile, there was a man sick with a palsy, which had faithful friends.  These friends wanting so desperately to see him made well that they hauled him up to the roof of the house, tore open a man sized hole and lowered him down in front of Jesus for healing.  Jesus, amazed with their faith, looked at the man and said “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”  But there were certain of the spectators sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, saying “Who can forgive sins but God only?”  Little did they know that Jesus was speaking with the voice and authority of the Father.  He took care of their suspicions when he told the man to “Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.”  And he did!

Let us not be like those in the story above who block the way of those who are sick and dying within.  God set angels with flaming swords at the gate of the garden of Eden to keep the way to the Tree of Life.  Not to block it.

Michael sang of healing the world and changing the man in the mirror.  The world to be healed was the world inside of him.  As I looked at both of these songs along with many others, I no longer saw a wild eccentric man, out of control, but a hungry heart needing to escape the whirlwind he was thrown into.

Let your thoughts and prayers be with
the worderful children he raised.

Yours in the Love of God

Heal the World

There's A Place In
Your Heart
And I Know That It Is Love
And This Place Could
Be Much
Brighter Than Tomorrow
And If You Really Try
You'll Find There's No Need
To Cry
In This Place You'll Feel
There's No Hurt Or Sorrow

There Are Ways
To Get There
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
Make A Better Place...

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

If You Want To Know Why
There's A Love That
Cannot Lie
Love Is Strong
It Only Cares For
Joyful Giving
If We Try
We Shall See
In This Bliss
We Cannot Feel
Fear Or Dread
We Stop Existing And
Start Living

Then It Feels That Always
Love's Enough For
Us Growing
So Make A Better World
Make A Better World...

And The Dream We Were
Conceived In
Will Reveal A Joyful Face
And The World We
Once Believed In
Will Shine Again In Grace
Then Why Do We Keep
Strangling Life
Wound This Earth
Crucify Its Soul
Though It's Plain To See
This World Is Heavenly
Be God's Glow

We Could Fly So High
Let Our Spirits Never Die
In My Heart
I Feel You Are All
My Brothers
Create A World With
No Fear
Together We'll Cry
Happy Tears
See The Nations Turn
Their Swords
Into Plowshares

We Could Really Get There
If You Cared Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
To Make A Better Place...

There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

Man in the Mirror

I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It's Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .

As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin' My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer's Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man's Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya' Know
'Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That's Why I Want You To
Know

I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change)
(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,
Na Nah)

I've Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They're Not
Alone?

A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody's Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya' See
Cause They Got No Place
To Be
That's Why I'm Starting With
Me
(Starting With Me!)
